The Magnolia SummerFest and Art Show is fast approaching, happening the weekend of July 29th.  Community members come together to enjoy great artwork, good food, live talent and a children’s parade.  The art in the show is juried, and applicant’s pieces are pooled together in either the adult show or youth show.  Winners will receive cash prizes, and the registration deadline is July 15th.  All art show applicants, poster contest applicants and vendors must register by this deadline date.  If you’d like to help out, the official website also has contact page for volunteer information.  Come out and enjoy a Magnolia tradition June 29th and 30th.  For more details and event information, please visit the official Magnolia Art Show website.

Long Time Magnolia Resident Passes

Long time Magnolia resident, Arthur Van Der Wel, passed away on June 13, 2011 after a valiant fight with an aggressive brain tumor.  Art had an amazing life which I cannot do justice to with my words, but one can read the kind words written about his life on the Seattle Times.

Art was not only respected by his friends and family but also through the many people whose lives he touched in the Magnolia neighborhood and the Seattle real estate industry in which he worked in since the 1960’s.  He will be sorely missed.

A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held in Magnolia on June 27th at Fatima Catholic Church at 2 PM.
